Children

Each child is an important part of the faith community at FUMC Cookeville. With family-friendly worship, excellent Sunday school, amazing children’s choir ministry and exceptional early childhood weekday ministry, FUMC pays  attention to the needs of children and families. Just as Jesus welcomed children to “Come to Me”, so children are warmly welcomed at FUMC.

Each fall third graders receive a gift of a Bible from their church family. In addition, they are invited to attend a short-term experience “Learning to Use My Bible”. During this time they become confident in using their Bible and in interacting with the scriptures.

3rd through 6th graders have an opportunity to assist in worship as an Acolyte. Acolytes learn about symbols and the meaning of worship as well as provide leadership within worship.

6th graders are provided an opportunity to experience Confirmation during Sunday school (9:45-10:45 am) from August through July each year. During this year they explore scriptures, confirm a personal faith, grow as disciples of Jesus, learn who they are as United Methodists, ask questions and share in formative experiences.

Children’s Church is available during the 8:30 am service for children 4 to 8 years old.  Please see the “We Welcome Children” brochure found in the pews and brochure racks around the church for detailed information about dates and registration information.  Emily Rose Linde, Children’s Ministry Intern, leads this group.
